I AM QUAIL COTTAGE, where the Wind and the Sky meet in a 360 degree sweep across the scenic Eastern Highlands of the Free State Province.
Beautiful Francolin Cottage is Yang, but I am Yin….......softer, curvaceous, tactile, I love the Moon, and nights when the Moon is full, rising like a great golden orb over the mountains, the sky filled with light that seeps, like a golden trespasser, into hidden valleys and lights up the great sandstone buttresses of the Eastern Free State.
We have Full Moons and Blue Moons, Closer Moons and Further Moons and Red Moons and All Beautiful Moons and moons full of fun and delight here in my SkyWind Valley.
Come and sit with me, just two special people, in the silence and vastness, and watch as the moon floats through the sky, there is a quietening of the soul, an easing of daily pressures and responsibilities.
Drift away on a Moonbeam, let all the petty problems of daily life drift away.
Walks, hikes, birding, small mammals, cycling, swimming with awesome 360 degree views, quiet afternoons curled up reading a good book or sharing a game of chess and a glass of wine, scenic beauty in the seclusion and privacy of the 420 acre Retreat & Conservancy. In 2002 when Allen and I returned to this small farm and that wonderful mountain, we were aghast at the destruction that over farming and present day farming methods had done. It was a quiet sad place, in the evenings sitting outside on what was then a crumbling “veranda” the nights were still, no crickets, no frogs, just……silence….and uncomfortable nothingness kind of stillness. And so the healing began.
